Birra Moretti La Rossa is a double malt beer produced using 100% high quality barley malt. This gives it a full, caramelised malt flavour and an intense aroma of roasted malt. Its distinctive amber colour originates from the type of malt used when brewing, a special malt which is dried and roasted.

Deep copper color with minimal head that dissipates quickly. Very sweet, rich malty nose. The thin taste first follows thru with a surprising crisp malt taste on the finish. Full mouthfeel coats the extremities and lingers nicely. True to style. Almost some burnt caramel on the end.

33cl bottle, with thanks to Don Michele. Clear, mahogany colour with a thick beige foamy head. Sweet toast-malty aroma with caramel and anise. Sweet flavour, almost full bodied with a smooth carbonation. Toast-malty taste with caramel and soft spicy notes; sweet and toasty malty finish with a present alcoholic burn. A bit one-dimensional Doppelbock. 23.IX.09

01/08 0.33 l bottle from Interspar, Udine. It poured a red body with bigger ivory head. Some caramel malts and hints of hops in its fine aroma. Flavor is pleasant as well, sweetish with caramel, candy, bready and fruity malts. Some wood or peat hints as well. Itโ€™s relatively full bodied with longer, sweet aftertaste. Nice one, deserves the top place in Italian macro beer list.

0.33l bottle courtesy of heavy who brought it from Italy (thanks!) Poured a nice reddish brown body with a thick medium sized off white head that went away at a medium pace. Sweet malty nose with notes of caramel, slightly dusty and dry (from the hops I guess). A fine sweet malt taste ending with a nice breadiness and some mouth drying slightly metallic bitter hops in the finish. Lightly woody. Not terribly complex but the alcohol is quite tame. Remarkably good considering the brewer. No huge faults to it, even the metallic quality doesnโ€™t annoy all that much.

Bottle. Sweet caramel malt aroma with light astringency. Dark brown color with small head. Creamy caramel malt flavor with light bitter/astringent finish. Also had on tap - no astringency noted - more like a dunkel.

Overall Impression: The darker a slightly better of the 2 Birra Moretti's you can find all over the place, still not a great one though.

Bottle 33cl. @ home.[ As Moretti La Rossa ].Clear medium amber color with a average to large, frothy, good lacing, mostly lasting, off-white head. Aroma is moderate to light light heavy malty, nutty, burnt caramel, brown sugar. Flavor is moderate sweet and bitter with a average duration. Body is medium to light, texture is watery to oily, carbonation is soft. For me it is a bit to industrial a beer. [20081128]

Bottle. Poured deep brown with thick lasting white head. Some lacing. Lekker aroma of malt, caramel and roast. Full sweet malty flavour with more caramel. Good hoppiness in the finish to balance the sweet malt
