This third Great Lakes saison i tried had a yeasty banana nose on a slightly opaque gold body. Grainy light malts + tart saison are also present in the aroma. Medium bodied with a sharp carbonation. The taste is excellent, spicy, wheaty & good.

(On tap at Bryden’s, June 16 2014) Pours a cloudy light gold, decent white head of fine bubbles, lots of lace. As expected, nose almost all driven by yeast, estery rather than phenolic. Loads of banana, bubblegum, clove, some pale malt and grain, just a slight funky barnyard to it. Palate follows the nose, a pale malt body (some wheat?) provides the backbone for lots of sweet banana and bubblegum esters, clove, towards the finish a bit mineral and just slightly sour and barnyardish, dusty yeast and a bit of grassy hops. Mouthfeel moderate, carb high, effervescent. Seemed quite to style for a traditional Belgian farmhouse with ester-heavy yeast. My personal preference would’ve been something a bit more phenolic and spicy but it’s still a good no-nonsense quaff on a sunny afternoon.
