Bottle, 8.7% as Cuvée Li Crochon Bruin. Spicy aroma, anis, caramel, hint of yeast. Clear red chestnut colour. Very small head. The flavour is quite sweet with some cookie spices, caramel, cinnamon, anis, perhaps a little ginger. Fat fruity yeast notes, in the finish. Not like baking yeast, so they are OK in this beer.

25 cL bottle, courtesy of fonefan. Pours clear and golden deep orange to amber with a fizzy tan head. Roasted breadish malt aroma with a light yeasty touch. Sweet caramel malty, roasted and mild acidic. Breadish too. Smooth finish with a subdued bitterness.

Bottle 25 cl. Courtesy of fonefan. Now called Cuvée Li Crochon Brune. Pours a clear dark orangey brown with a nice beige head. Sweet aroma of hard roasted malt and dried fruit. Quite full-bodied with a heavy carbonation, sweet prunes, roasted malt and other fruit. Basically no bitterness. 291108

Dark chestnut colour, slight haze; brownish head, stable. Something buttery in the nose (no diacetyl), dark bread (Maillard?), candi sugar, some hops and ? parsley - butter and parsley, it reminds me of Burgundy snailsauce! Bitter taste of roasted, even burnt malts; there is a malty-sweeter base that the bitterness is capping. There might be hops - but the balance is turned too much to the roasted bitterness. Mouthfeel is quite full-bodied, carbonation is very apparent. The malt sweetness, under the main taste, becomes obvious after a long time, but the burnt flavours keep lingering. I cannot like this overtipped roasted flavour. There is an uneasy near-balance which doesn't satisfy.
