One of three ’Bios Hop & Mout’ beers Van Steenberge keeps in honour locally for the sake of tradition. This one is an ’export’ in the old Flemish sense of the word, meaning a lager bottled in 33 cl instead of 25 cl, a tradition usually only remembered by old chaps with caps. Snow white, sticky, thinnish but stable foam, colour of ’old gold’, clear and nicely sparkling. Sweetish malt aroma, bit honeyish, with chamomille-like floral hops and hints of cookies, iron, cloves, young cheese and even a very subtle smokiness. Neutral onset with medium carbonation, vague malt sweetness, finishing shortly hop bitterish. Unpretentious, very old-fashioned lager and definitely not the same beer as their Sparta Pils.

Bottle, 4.8%. 8 months past BB date. Weak bready aroma. Clear yellow colour. Small stable white head. The flavour is bready and papery. Good mouthfeel. Does not taste old as such, but would probably be better fresh.

Bottle 33 cl. Courtesy of fonefan. Clear golden with a white head. Malty nose. Light body, malty with an atypical edge for a Pilsener, but an edge that clearly signals Belgium. Basically no bitterness. 281108

Bottled. An amber beer with an off-white head. The aroma is sweet malty with notes of very ripe fruits, dusty hops, alcohol, and malt. The flavor is sweet malty with notes of alcohol, dusty hops, and some fruit. Leading to a dry and slightly alcoholic finish.
