Draught at European Beer Festival, Copenhagen. Cloudy amber. Intense smokey aroma. Sweet and fruity. Full bodied with smoke, phenols and ripe fruits. Sweetness fight with smoke for attention, some black currant comes along. Finishes with warming alcohol and medium bitterness. More interesting than good.

Draught at brewpub Kobenhavn ... Copper touch hazy ... slightly sweet nice balanced smoked malts nose ... light fruit with a gentle smokeyness ... that was ok but hid any barley wine tones.

On tap @ the brewpub. Hazy, dark orange body with a pale, beige head. Aroma is smoked, sweet malt with a hint of sourness. Flavor is sweet, strong malty, dark dry fruit, smoke and a hint of acidity. Well balanced, warming and a long pleasant finish with bitter tones. Might have a good aging potential.

Light amber color. Huge peaty, smokey nose with a touch of cherries. Smoke, thick, syrupy mouth with some brandy notes. Thick sweet syrupy smokey finish. The beer throws a lot at you, but does not go anywhere and seems to be all over the place. Perhaps age will improve this. Interesting none the less.

A bit hazy amber color, small steady off-white head, some lace. Strong smokey, wet peat aroma with some hops, like sniffing Scotch single malt whisky. Flavor is a bit dissapointing: wet peat mixed with sweetish yeast, pale malts and touch of alcohol. Horribly unbalanced. Smokey and alcoholic aftertaste. Good in paper, not so pleasant in reality.

For my rating number 11,111 I rate the beer brewed by my good friend Mike Murphy at Gourmetbryggeriet the day I entered my rating numer 10,000 - to celebrate the 10,000 reviews. The beer is brewed from an idea in my head, that Mike translated into this beer. Thanks to MIke an Gourmetbryggeriet for making this happen.

On draft it is hazy, while bottled it is a clear amber and in both instances it is quite carbonated due to refermentation which results is in a huge, but collapsing off-white head. The aroma is quite sweet with strong notes of caramel, but also a persistent medium powerful note of smoke, both beechwood and a little peat. The alcohol can also be detected in the aroma. The flavor is sweet with a solid base of malt, caramel, toffee, bread, and alcohol on which are persistent medium notes of smoke and bacon. The finish is a dry sweet one with the smoke note lingering. I like it.

(On tap) Thanks to a very special beer friend Jens Ungstrup. Hazy amber golden with a creamy off-white head leaving broad curtains of lacework. Very distinct and fat almost tar-like Bamberg smoke. Not that heavy in the body but sweet sweet sweet - really there’s a shipload of caramel in there and then again FAT smoky accents. The bitterness is subdued to almost absent. Yeah, Jens is a malthead who doesn’t like hops.... :-) But a very nice and experimenting brew. 280808

tap, brewpub, release day. aroma : a bit sour, belgian stuff makes a nice base. app : cloudy dark orage, fine offwhite head fl: sweet, alc. very well hidden, smoked somethings, apricot?, quite belgian style flavor. above average for its style. palate : average overall : smoke definetly makes it even better, and the smoked notes are only here as a spice, very subtle. personally i’d like more smoke, but what we have is gourmet ;-), imo this danish brew is in the better half, perhaps the better 1/3 of the belgian brews. re-rate bottle. 2011-06-24. nutty and malty aroma. flavor is caramelly, malty, smoked notes, blended with dark fruits. complex.
