Draught @ Brewpub København on release day, Vestergade 29, 1456 Copenhagen, Denmark.Unclear medium orange color with a average, frothy - creamy, good lacing, mostly lasting, off-white head. Aroma is moderate malty, caramel, smoke - peat, wood notes. Flavor is moderate to heavy sweet and bitter with a average to long duration. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft. A special beer for a special man, cheers Jens ;0)) (280808)

Corked bottle; "A smoked barely wine" says the label
Beautiful amber color; medium head, frothy. It has a mild smokey aroma, and medium smokey flavor; but underneath I sense more a Strong Belgian Ale than a Barley Wine; it’s quite sweet, but not as full bodied as expected; the bitterness is very low (indeed it has 26 IBUs); the alcohol is warming, in the final and a bit on the tongue, but not too intrusive; the aroma and flavor are nice, the final is less interesting.
I’m a big fan of Barley Wines and Smoked beers, I probably expected wonders out of this one; well, it’s not so exciting, but a good beer nevertheless.
Cheers to Jens!

300ml draught at Brewpub København and later served from a 750ml bottle as a successful aperitif at a party in Tromsø. After the pour has settled Ungstrup presents itself with an initial, off-white head over an unclear, amber-orange body. Aroma of dry fruits with smoked malts to the fore. Complex flavour of acid fruits, oranges, late banana and apricot sustained by brown sugar added a yeasty touch with a vapour of warming alcohol coming through. Sweet-acid ending. The smoked malts are hardly noticeable in the taste. Soft and powerful in the mouth. Maybe still a bit unfinished. Nonetheless, a decent made, living product that really worked to stimulate the appetite, and as a perfect partner to the Coldplay music at the brewpub (Copenhagen, 15.09.2008 and Tromsø, 27.09.2008).

Bottle shared with Rune & others. Golden colored. Unclear. A shortlived fluffy head. Sweet smoky aroma. Flavor in the same direction with fruity hints. Well rounded with the alcohol well hidden. Dry, fruity bitterness in the aftertaste.

Test vom 29.9.2008, Gebinde: Fass Noten: 13,8,8,9,-,9 - 9,10

Draught@EBF2008. Golden colour, small head. Aroma is smoked wet wood, some grass, leather and some mild saltwater and mild notes of alcohol. Flavour is quite much the same along with some very sweet fruity notes. A bit sweet in the flavour.

On draught at Brewpub Kobenhaven, 12-09-08, thanks to Duff for leaving me with the rest of this glass. Pours hazy amber, with a real pushy burn in the mouth, bit spirity in the mouth with a thin white head. I found this a bit brash and a touch rough around the edges. Some bonfire on the nose.

Draught at EBF08. Weak malty aroma. Good smoke flavour. Plenty of maltiness, quite sugary. Lots of alcohol, gets a bit sharp and bitter in the finish.

Tap at EBF: Cloudy orange with a small creamy white head. Smooth, smokey, vinous, sugary, fruity orange. Warming. All good - however the smoke is too dominating for my likings!

Draught Orange head, fast gone; hazy orange-foxy beer. Sour, lactic, even acetic nose. Smoked overlapping the acidity in the flavour, but the harsh sourness remains obvious. Some unripe fruit. Sharp MF, acidburn, quite some carbonation, despite the Barrel aging, but I fear that’s the dispense, not the beer. Ends not bad, I couldn’t help being shocked by the nose - sorry, Jens.
