RBESG08 grand tasting. My first Israeli beer, thanks a lot to Barak for bringing it!. Murky dark red body, tan head. Yoghurty nose with notes of malt, some butter. Ookaay. Taste.... fruit yoghurt and butter, quite thick mouthfeel. Erm. I doubt that it’s supposed to taste this way and I’ll be wanting to try this fresh one day.

Bottled at RBESG. Cloudy mahogany colour, creamy head. Raspberry aroma with some fatty acidity. Lots of toffeish malt generates a soft but near full body. There are traces of tart lingonberry. Milky finish with fairly low bitterness.

Big thanks to DSG for the beer. The bottle looks really good, the beer in the glass also. Very sweet and zippy aroma. Tastes not as malty and not as strong as exspected. Modest malty, notes of coffee and chocolate. Unusual but interesting doppelbock!

Bottle, 7.8%. Sweet aroma, slightly fruity. Dark brown colour, seems clear. Very small tan head. Sour and sweet flavour, quite roasted maltiness. Rather sweet and with a strange acidity, but I somehow like it.

50 cL bottle, thanks to DSG. Pours dark and hazy brown with a dense light brown head. Malty and light spiced aroma. Flavour is smooth malty, light acidic note and a spice flavour inbetween. Ends with a malt and a light acidic note. Continued spiced flavour into the finish.

0.5L bottle. deep brown with some lighter streaks, rich malty aroma with some light leafy and yeasty notes. Strong flavours of roasted coffee and dark, rich, bitter chocolate, blended with some caramely swettness which isn’t overpowering. The body is suprisingly light for such a rich beer. Long and quite pleasant sweet and sour finish.

Re-rate 3/21/11: Bottle. Hazy brown color with a huge creamy beige head. Aroma of toasted grains, caramel, fruits, some dark bread, yeast and some funky notes. Sweetish-sourish flavor of yeast, fruits, some malt and caramel and a sourish-bitter fruity finish. Medium-bodied. This beer is obviously infected and doesn’t taste how it should. The people who bought the Golan Brewery should worry less about re-branding and more about fixing their bad ol’ quality control. 5/4/5/3/10=2.7
Re-rate 9/28/08: Draught at the brewpub. Deep reddish Brown color with a small but stable beige head. Aroma of toasted, slightly roasted, malt, caramel and some pleasant dark fruits. Sweet malty flavor with dark bread, sugary notes, caramel, a bit of fruitiness and alcohol hints. Medium-bodied with a fluffy mouthfeel. Very pleasant when fresh. A well-made Doppelbock, it’s a shame the bottling line is so poor so every other bottle is at least slightly infected. 7/4/7/3/14=3.5
Bottle sample at a beer festival in Kibbutz Ma’abarot. Deep brown. Malty aroma with notes of roastiness and some smoky hints. Nice sweet flavor with firm dark maltiness, caramel, bread and some fruity notes. A sweet finish with maybe a bit of pepper. Medium-bodied. A good doppelbock. 7/4/7/4/15=3.7
