A dark ruby beer with a mellow, creamy, coffee aroma, plus a hint of blackberry. The taste is creamy, mellow, coffeeish, bittersweet and easy-drinking, with blackberry fruit emerging. Drying, bittersweet, creamy, roasted malt finish.

Bottle. A dark, dark brown beer with a nice tan head. Looking really good in the glass. Bonfire-sour, burnt aroma with charcoal and some coffee. Nice, but too burnt for my likings. The flavor folllows the same path, with bonfire sourness, charcoal, burnt malt, some coffee and a coffee-like bitterness. Long, burnt finish. Dry and full-bodied. A quite nice burnt beer, but I would like some hops playing a part too. (080823)

50cl bottle. Pours black with a creamy brown head. Lots of chocolate & ashy notes. Medium & smooth palate. Dry end! Very good for a low procent stout!

Half served at a perfect drinking temperature from gravicask at London Drinker BF 08. Pours a very dark body with a thin off-white head. Weak roasted sweetness in aroma. Light chocolate malts added by liquorice acidity in taste. Foamy mouthfeel. Standard stout (13.03.2008).

Cask handpull at London Drinker BF 08. Black with brown edges. Quite a choccy nose. OK in mouth, maybe a little tired, some condition. Not great. Just a little harsh for me, roasted grain. Some juiciness.

On gravity at the London Drinker festival 12/3/08. Near black with a decent tan head. Roasted malt aroma with some dark fruit and chocolate. Smooth drinking with plenty more chocolate flavours and a dry finish. Good.

(Cask, Wenlock Arms, London, 22 July) Colour is black, with little head. Nose is roasted and malty with a fruity citrus note and even some tar. Nose is roasted, with rather fruity notes of wild berries and some chocolate. Bitter sweet finish with liquorice notes. Surprisingly fruity for a stout, but still nice.

Bottled at RBESG. Near black. Marked earthy aroma. Dryish and medium bodied. Mildly malty with clean, rounded mouthfeel and notes of coffee. Medium bitterness. Very well balanced.

Bottled @RBESG’05
Dark ruby, almost opaque. Tobacco, roast in the nose. Medium-bodied. Roasted, tobacco also in the flavor. (8/4/7/3/14 3.6). Re-rated, Cask@Wenlock Arms, London. Opaque black, small tan head. Cold coffee in the nose. Starts salty, not very strong flavorexd, but then in the finish licorice and cold coffee burst in. Cold coffee in the aftertaste too. (7/4/7/3/14 3.5)
