Cask at Southampton Arms. Dark brown, almost black with pretty much no head. Aroma is fruity, but plummy. Taste is fruity with a grainy finish, maybe also a touch of cola. Dry and grainy at the end. Quite rich. Nice enough. --- Beer merged from original tick of Black Swan on 09 Sep 2019 at 16:06 - Score: Appearance - 2 | Aroma - 6 | Flavor - 7 | Texture - 6 | Overall - 7. Bottle from Millets Farm Shop, Frilford, nr Abingdon. Deep brown with a lasting beige head and a light fizz. Maybe a little thin. Blackberries up front with a touch of smoke and a smidgen of cough mixture. Really quite fruity actually before chocolate and lightly roasted malt comes through in the dry, bittersweet finish. Surprisingly decent; much better than Vale’s usual offerings.
