Refreshing, balanced and full of flavour. This is a captivating golden ale, sophisticated in taste and rich in colour. Edinburgh Gold pours deep gold with a white head. On the nose is a complex blend of noble hops and a little caramel sweetness. The taste is medium to light-bodied with continental hops and moderate bitterness providing a pleasing smooth finish.

Cask at Guildford Arms. Pours clear gold with a good white head. Light biscuit malt aromas, some toffee and citrus. Good balance of sweet and bitter on the taste, more biscuit coming through. Gentle carbonation, good mouthfeel. Nice, solid beer.

Cask at the brewery - Golden in colour. Earthy aroma with hints of dried fruit. Slightly metallic taste with notes of grain, lemon and dried apricot. Not bad, but a bit ordinary.

Pours a cloudy amber this time. It’s more toffee-ish this time on both the nose and taste. Also, the overall experience is greater than the sum of the parts. Original rating 28/03/11 5/3/5/3/12 33cl bottle. Golden with a hint of orange, it pours a nice head which hangs around a bit. The nose is oaty with a hint of pine or grass in the background. The taste is of more porridge oats, with little bit of grassy hops on the end. Good palate - substantial body which cleans nicely but not too bitter. Overall, a very enjoyable and sessionable beer if not one that blows you away.
