After its initial release in February 2009, Top Sail was aged for about 10 months in bourbon casks from Kentucky. This extended aging presents aromas of oak, coconut and bourbon. Deep chocolate flavors warm to a full-bodied beer. Deep black in color, Top Sail Bourbon Aged Imperial Porter has a roasty malt flavor that is immensely drinkable and smooth. Very limited availability in 22oz. bottles and draught. ABV 9.85% IBU 65 [retired march 2009 - mj / unretired Feb 2010 - 5000]

Bottle sampled at SIB, pours black with a beige head. Aroma is lots of roasted malt and bourbon. Flavour of vanilla upfront, roasted malt, oak, bourbon and dark fruits. The vanilla is most dominant giving a really silky mouthfeel. Delicious stuff.

Bottle provided by Marcus - thanks! Pours garnet tinged brown/black with a slight tan head. Rich aromas of roasted malt, chocolate and vanilla. Full bodied with creamy carbonation. There’s a touch of heat, a lot of chocolate, a little darkish fruit, and something oaky with a twinge of heat. Not quite so thickish as many BA stouts, and here that’s a good thing. Very palatable.

Tasting at Papsø
Black color. The expected Bourbon vanilla aroma, with a light sour touch, light alcohol. Strong body, strong chocolate flavor, but the Bourbon is too much present, the vanilla clashes with some of the roasted malt sourness, the final gets drier, and with some boozy alcohol. Powerful but confused.

Bottle 65 cl. Courtesy of fiver29. Pours an almost opaque black with a vague tint of red and a beige head. Sweet aroma of licorice allsorts, roasted malts and vanilla. Solid body, hard roasted malts and vanilla - Bourbon and licorice allsorts. No real biterness. Pleasant. 230410
