After its initial release in February 2009, Top Sail was aged for about 10 months in bourbon casks from Kentucky. This extended aging presents aromas of oak, coconut and bourbon. Deep chocolate flavors warm to a full-bodied beer. Deep black in color, Top Sail Bourbon Aged Imperial Porter has a roasty malt flavor that is immensely drinkable and smooth. Very limited availability in 22oz. bottles and draught. ABV 9.85% IBU 65 [retired march 2009 - mj / unretired Feb 2010 - 5000]

Bottle thanks to suzygreenberg! Pours black with a dark brown head that dissipated slowly. Aroma has a strong bourbon note with an undertone of roasted malts, chocolate and a bit of wood (oak). Flavor starts with as strong bourbon/oak note but the roasted malts and chocolate build throughout.

Full Sail tasting at Enoteca in Post Falls, Idaho. 6 oz sample from bomber poured into shaker. 2009 vintage. Strong bourbon, raisins, wine grapes and licorice in the nose. A black beer with a small head and mediocre lacing. Strong dark chocolate flavor. Starts sweet and finishes bitter. Complex both in aroma and in flavor. Medium carbonation. Nice beer here.

Bottled. A pitch black beer with a fast disappearing dark brown head. The aroma has strong notes of bourbon, and roasted malt, as well as notes of chocolate, wood, and soy sauce. The flavor is sweet with strong notes of roasted malt, bourbon, dark bitter chocolate, and alcohol, leading to a dry, roasted, bourbon finish. Somewhat alcoholic. Thanks Sahlholdt for sharing

2007 bottle. Fruity, vinous aroma with chocolate, cocoa, vanilla, bourbon. Interesting flavor of cocoa, with bourbon, vanilla, dark and dried fruits. Dry, roasty, smoky flavor, with quite a lot of bourbon barrel. Good but not great.

2008 bottle thanks to Americanbrew. Pours with a tan head and a black body. Aroma of wet wood, chocolate, fig, oak and vanilla. Taste is fig, tobacco, wet wood, chocolate and barrel. A touch thin on the mouth with a rich finish. Light bubbles.

Split this bomber with some pals while watching the USA Rugby game. Pours a slightly oily, opaque black with a thin, beige head. Aroma is well balanced, plenty of bourbon obviously, vanilla, chocolate, wood, booze, with some fruitiness that’s still present. Bourbon flavors are dominant but not over powering which is nice. Vanilla, fruits, wood, caramel, coffee, some light nuts, oak. Finish is where this really takes off, slightly oily, full bodied, some lasting sweetness, lasting booze. Very nice sipper.

Bottle 66cl. [ Courtesy of cgarvieuk ]. Clear dark black color with a large, frothy, good lacing, mostly lasting, light brown head. Aroma is moderate to heavy malty, roasted, chocolate, cacao, vanilla, whisky, alcohol - metanol. Flavor is moderate to heavy sweet and bitter with a long to average duration. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft, finish feel is light to moderate alcoholic. Very nice ;o)) (260708)
