Armada Ale was one of the first new 'Golden Ales' that emerged in the 1980s. It has a pronounced yet balanced hop character, derived from Fuggle and Golding hops. Originally commissioned by the National Maritime Museum, it quickly established itself as a piece of living history. Robust, refreshing and still a port of call in any beer-drinker's voyage of discovery.

Cask at the Royal Oak, Borough on 11th June 2025. Clear coppery amber with lasting, shallow off-white foam and full lacing. Citrus notes in aroma. Citrus zest, spicy maltiness and a good deal of grassiness in-mouth, with a malt-rounded herbal finish. Lightish body and a smooth mouthfeel.

Cask at Royal Oak. Orange amber colour with small white head. Aroma is quite fruity, blood orange mainly. Slightly boozy too, almost a bit orange liqueur like. Taste has the same strong orange taste, quite full on in the mouth, maybe a bit too much over the course of a whole pint. Quite slick, with a fruity end. Liked it, but probably would have preferred to just have a half.
