Made for drinks store De Hopduvel in Ghent; was the first of their series of commissioned beers in 1982, but first brewed by 't Hamerken (later De Gouden Boom, now defunct) in Bruges, then by Slaghmuylder in Ninove and only then by Van Steenberge.

Notes from early 90s. 25 clbottle from Slaghmuylder, 6%. Aroma’s of malts/grains, slightly sweet, fruity, herbs/spices. Flavor: quite neutral, grainish. Light bodied. Finishes, malty/grainy first, then moderate bitter. Nice.

One of those beers the famed beer shop Hopduvel in Ghent commissions at Van Steenberge. An orange blond bear with stable, off-white head and fruity, estery and yeasty profile, a bit thin mouthfeel seen its strength and dry finish with warming and somewhat wry alcohol. A side by side tasting with Van Steenberge’s own Piraat and Boucanier beers would seem interesting - but in any case, this Stropken clearly bears the Van Steenberge stamp.

Clear dark orange to amber beer, big fizzy aery light beige head, pretty stable, adhesive. aroma: bit dusty, oxidized, sherry notes, orange peel, some almonds, cardboard. MF: ok carbon, medium body. Taste: bit sourish, orange peel, some caramel, sugary, little metallic. Aftertaste: bit malty, oxidized, sherry, orange peel, sweet, pretty metallic.

I found this 25cl bottle hiding in a box of beer at home. I’m guessing I bought it at Dranken Geers some time ago as the BBE was 23/10/10. Hazy gold/orange, lasting thick white head. Some spicy Belgian yeast on aroma, bit of bread, some orange/tangerine fruit. It’s fine in mouth some more orange furit. Some kicking hop on finish. Good hop on finish, quite biting. Rather a fun Belgian blond. Drinkable.

Bottle. Bright clear yellow, fizzy tall head. Aroma has slight white pepper, lots of malt. Taste is very lager-like, bitter finish. Average.

Bottle from De Heeren Van Liedekercke, vintage 1991, 18 years old, 6% ABV
Dark amber, brownish color, hazy, with very few bubbles and a Real Ale - like head. The caramel aroma is a bit oxidized and rusty, like the cap. It has a light caramel flavor, very light residual sweetness and light acidity. The bitterness is almost gone. This beer is too tired, even if not completely undrinkable.

bottle somewhere in Gent - Pours clear blonde with a one finger head. It smells of mild hops and yeast. The flavor is of pale malt and mild hops with a balanced finish. It’s a refreshing brew.
