We’ve often been inspired to brew beers on a theme. In 2007 it was black IPAs. 2008 saw Belgian-influenced IPAs, and more than once it’s been Triple IPAs. It’s been fun to dive deep, and you’ve ridden those waves right along with us. But like you, we also crave new breaks to surf. Right now, it’s tropically-inspired IPAs as represented both by this flavored ale, Stone Tangerine Express IPA and others we’ve got waiting in the wings....With Stone Vengeful Spirit IPA we employ a bit of tropical mythology to pay homage to our ever present gargoyle. Since 1996 he’s had our backs, and yours, by representing an aggressive intolerance for commoditized beer. He constantly inspires us to forge ahead with resolve–even with the omnipresent forces of forceful evil. Vengeful spirits can be awesome when they’re on your side.
Another exploration into fresh fruit with a nice array of fruity and floral hops. This is about as refreshing as it gets with just the right amount of malt and bitterness to carry this beer through to another sip, taste, pint, etc.

On tap at IBU. Pours a orange hue with a medium white head. A big tropical fruity nose. Toast, big tropical notes, mango, oranges, some soft bitterness. Very smooth, nice.

From a 355ml can on 16/1/2018. Pours a super cloudy golden with a smallish head. Has a strong tropical and citrus fruit nose. As promised by the can, the flavours feature lots of pineapple, mandarin and orange - I get some apricot and mango too. The lovely sweetness is countered by a pretty firm resiny, peely hops (10 IBU? Really?), which balance things out beautifully. Has a full and creamy palate and moderate carbonation. Fuck this is good stuff - as good if not better than the superb Tangerine Express. I'm not sure I've encountered a brewer as consistently good as Stone. I hope they make this as a regular. I will certainly be consuming more.

Can. Moderately hazy amber with a white head. Fruity aroma with mandarins and tropical bubblegum, citrus flowers. Fairly light bodied, creamy with medium carbonation. Very fruity and fairly sweet with some biscuit, lowish bitterness - particularly for Stone. Avoids the yeasty bite some of these very fruity IPAs have. The bitterness is just enough to stop it being cloying and keeping it tasting like beer, I liked the not entirely dissimilar Tangerine Express one slightly better (more bitterness, lower alcohol) but this is another pretty nice one.

Fairy hazy copper and bronze coloured body with an apricot glow and a decent two centietre tall tan head. Aroma of orange juice, full oranges, a touch of apricots and a lot of mangoes - fairly juicy and sweet notes are around with a touch of light hops as well. Light to Medium-bodied; Strong fruity flavours at first too with a big hop flavour right afterwards shows the tropical side of things with a dose of floral and grassy bitterness as well and a light sweetness from honey near the end. Aftertaste shows more of the tropical flavours with a bigger malt side than seen before with a touch of alcohol noticeable on the end. Overall, quite a bit better than expected, but nothing ground-breaking nor amazing here, simply a good tropical-ish IPA that was much more than expected from this brewery that wasn't overdone, overblown or overstated to the n-th degree. The can probably read something like that, but I didn't bother reading anything that this brewery puts out to jade opinions, which is much better to just let the beer do the talking. I sampled this twelve ounce can purchased from Whole Foods in Pentagon City (Arlington), Virginia on 22-November-2017 for US$2,99 sampled at home in Washington on 06-January-2018.

Can from Brewcraft at home. Slightly hazy golden orange pour with dense fine white head. Aroma is sharp citrus pith and juicy tropical pineapple hoppiness. Taste is deliciously tropical while not compromising on Stone resin bitterness. Smooth caramel malt. Lingering bitterness. Great big IPA that’s just as huge but more drinkable and tropical than the standard Stone IPA. Much better than the previous Ghost Hammer too, I think.
