Shared with Cab: Dark amber red with off white head. Malty, earthy, vinous, nutty, spicy, alcohol. Strong sweet & light smokey flavor. Medium bodied. Overall very well made I think. It fits the style! Great!

500 ml bottle, courtesy of Cardinal pub, Stavanger. ABV is 7.5%. Deep brown colour, large to moderate tan head. Vinous aroma, sherry, oak, raisins, dark fruits. Very rich, malty, sweet, fruity and vinous flavour. Robust and far from easy drinking - still very, very good! This must be a classic old ale - one to save for Christmas (after dinner).

Bottled. A deep red beer with a thin off-white head. The aroma is sweet with notes of caramel and over-ripe fruits. The flavor is sweet malty with primary notes of over ripe fruits, leading to a dry bitter end.

(Bottle 50 cl) Clear, orangey brown with a small, rough, off-white head. Rustic, slightly vinous and sherry-like aroma. Medium-bodied, vaguely tart with a hint of wood and smoke. Rather complex and interesting in both aromas and flavours. 120207

Bottle picked up at SH Jones, Bicester, Oxon, 02-12-06. This beer poured a very dark amber colour and had a very fruity (dried fruits) aroma. Intriguing taste including dried fruits, coffee, liqorice, simpy stunning range of flavours, I really, enjoyed this excellent beer.

Brown with a quickly disappearing head. Toffee aroma with a bit of nuttiness some wood and port and some strange milk(?) note. Rich sweet malt flavour with some acidity and a hint of hops at the end.

Reddish, or maybe...bloody...brown ale with a thin off white head. Very smooth caramel with scotch alcohol notes in aroma. Spicey hops, sweet confectionnary sugar, and floral hops makes this the best of the 3 pack. Oily and onctuous mouthfeel. Bought at Waitrose, Gloucester Road, London.
