Maximón is a Mayan deity represented in various forms - also as a beer. A complex, moderately spicy, smooth and full-bodied Baltic Porter. There's a hint of fruity chili combined with sweet and rich chocolate notes.

Cocoa- and chili-flavoured Baltic porter by this very Baltic craft brewery, bottle from De Caigny shared with Goedele and Craftmember. Pale yellowish beige, thinnish, mousy ring leaving dots of lacing as well as dots of foam in the middle; black robe with burgundy edges. Aroma of melting ‘fondant’ chocolate, caramel candy, bayleaf, treacle, fig compote, liquorish, some bitter cocoa indeed but the chili remains very subtle. Sweet onset, candied dates, raisins, sourish note, light umami accent, softly carbonated. Deeply toffeeish, cashew nut- and black chocolate-like maltiness, rounded and full, with a coffeeish roasted bitter accent at the back before getting heated up by a combination of peppery chili (more so than expected based on aroma), spicy hops and whisky-like booze. Long, hot and very full, perhaps not the most refined Baltic porter I had so far (I think I’d still rather turn to Põhjala for that) but nevertheless a great example of how Eastern European pride has revived an old local beer style that has a lot to offer.

Botella 33 Cl en el gato que bebía cerveza Valladolid 03..11.. 2018. (r61). Lote 213 fcpref 16..02..2020Color negro intenso con espuma beige oscuro que desaparece al poco casi por completo. Sabores intensos maltosos tostados con buenos toques de cacaos, café algo seco tostado algo quemado. Suaves vainillas y final de pimiento y chile no muy abundante algo seco. Un poco más de picante no Le hubiera ido mal. Cuerpo intenso, denso y fino. Bastante buena para repetir sin duda.

Bottle 330ml. [ As Sori Maximón ].Clear dark black brown colour with a average, frothy, good lacing, mostly lasting, beige head. Aroma is moderate to heavy malty, roasted, chocolate, dark malt, wood - mild chili, rich chocolate. Flavor is moderate to heavy sweet and bitter with a long duration, dark malt, chocolate, rich dark chocolate, roasted, sweet malt - sweet chocolate, chili warm, fruity chili, light spicy - peppery. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft, finish feel is light alcoholic. [20180914] 8-3-8-4-16
