The rich and roasted malt notes defy the pale colour in this special bitter. Brewed as a one-off for St. George’s day it went down so well it’s made a number of re-appearances since for significant national events, and has a great following in bottle. A traditional bitter-style ale, the pale colour defies a rich maltiness normally associated with a darker ale.
We laboured long and hard over this one. Sick and tired of seeing classic English pubs making elaborate celebrations for St. Patrick’s day, and yet very little for our own dear St. George, we decided to brew a special for April 23rd. It went down a storm, and although it’s not been an ever-present it has made a number of important contributions from the bench coming on to score last minute winners. In short, a real fans favourite.

On cask at Glassworks, Chesterfield - clear amber, white top. Bitter caramel hints, dry fruit, toffee malt, pretty standard.

Cask @ Brewery Tap, Chester [070417]
Amber, clear, dense white head, good lacing
Aroma - Very little, maybe slight grass
Taste of light grassy hops, dab of monkey nut, light caramel malts, flavour in here quite like Thornbridge Sequoia but much duller, expected more flavour for the abv
Palate - Medium body, a little sweet, smooth. Finish as main flavour, light grassy peanut
Overall - Not bad, but dull for the abv

18th April 2015: gravity poured half-pint at the Stourbridge CAMRA Beer Festival. Light amber to golden body, a white topping. Malts lead the way in the nose and taste with a mild fruitiness coming through in the flavour. Decent and tasty, not as sweet as my review might indicate.
