Always a good choice when just having a beer or two. Thick and flavorful...coffee like flavor. A classic beer that is enjoyable

Re-organized rating (rated a while ago for the old 6.8abv version of this): Nigh chocolately falvor, with a bunch of bitterness and body to back it up. Drank it out of the bottle, but color was really apparent by looking into the dark bottle. Definately a well crafted beer. Don’t know whether I prefer this or Guinness Draught. Both are good, but this one probably has a richer flavour.

Bottle; New Brunswick, CA; Could be Labatt, could be Moosehead. Roasted malt aroma. Nearly opaque black color with ruby tints at the edges. Frothy tan head that laces. Medium bodied; lots of carbonation. Starts a bit sour, with roasted malt. The finish is dry, light touch of coffee, and mostly the remnants of the roasted malt. The sour got lost along the way. Doesn’t have the burnt toast I seem to remember from years ago. Ok, but many American stouts are as good or better. Guess I’ll have to get my hands on one from Dublin. Imported Guinness from Canada almost seems misleading.

Most of my experience with Guinness has been the draft - which is probably why I have always had such a low opinion of their products. Finally I managed to get around to trying this one. Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a black color with a medium sized fluffy brown head. The head lingered nicely. The aroma was light toasted malt. The flavor was a bit gritty and had a nice presence of roasted/toasted malt. The finish was a bit bitter. Not bad at all. This one redeems the brewer in my eyes.

(Bottle 35,5 cl) Completely black and opaque with a good, lacing, beige head. Toasted and lightly burned malt aroma. Medium body with some lightly sweet, burned malt and a bitter, burned finish deriving from the same malt. 230307

Guiness, Guinnes, why do I keep trying? It must be the mystique of the first ‘craft’ beer I sampled, years ago, along with Heinie dark. But I sample this one as I rate. I have been mostly disappointed with the few other guinnes styles I have drank. I’m hoping this has some carbonation left over from 1759. Brown 12 oz bottle, must be from the UK, 12 oz, not 11 point something. Shorter and stubbier than most bottles. With a small head it pours nearly opaque in my stein. Not overwhelming but the slight aroma of a porter or stout, you know, typical dark beer smell. The flavor is pleasing with the available carbonation. Smooth fine bubbles grace the back of my throat. After the sip a nice short burst of foam arises to the top of the brew. Has a nice roastyness about it without being overbearing. Finish is not an onslaught but it does gently fade into a grapefruit peel bitterness that you won’t soon forget. Carbonation is much better than the other guins. Best guinny I’ver recently had. Could not drink too many of these at a time. Taste is somewhat like La Rossa but not as oppressing. Better than draught guin and mendico black hawk dry stouts.
