A social attempt at a Belgian quad. Single fermentation. Some of the aromas and flavors of the style but nothing to notable. Little more sweet than bitter with okay carbonation and body. These guys used to be much better.

The 12 oz bottle I have came from Half Time with a stamp saying the beer was bottled on 8/8/24. I have sought out Quad for years after seeing a quadrupel tasting review on the web from 2014. The beers accumulated for that comparison were separated by European and American breweries. Of course Quad was put in the American group and unfortunately it was bottom rated meaning not good things in comparison to domestic beers and the overseas quadrupels also. Do I not want to rate this one now? Hell no, let's give it a shot. I see the label is largely unchanged from earlier pics and the ABV has stayed the same. All this is fine by me, I am here to sample a quadrupel new to me. I have a New Belgium globe glass in place to receive the pour and I tilt the bottle. The appearance is an amber colored body completed by a bare cover of silvery tan foam meaning it goes more the way of a La Trappe quad than a Trappistes Rochefort. Who cares, the tent covering quadrupels is big. The scent is strong, I get plenty of purple fruit, yeast and alcohol. The taste now, well, I am not put off at all. Sweet dark plums, black raisins, grain, malt, some yeasty esters, cherries, candi sugar and an earthiness. Sweet somewhat but not badly so. I am liking this way more than I expected. I appreciate my quads and this one is better than many.

2005 bottle acquired in trade way back then. I'm joining the new tradition of popping a Quad on Lead Day. Great idea! Pour is nearly flat, just a little fizz as I pour, but no bubbles. Smell has a nice sugar and molasses character. Then some plum and a note of pipe tobacco. Taste is nice and bourbony, a bit of sour aftertaste. Mouthfeel is a bit of a letdown. But that's likely due to age: rather flat again, just some pinpricks of bubble. Again, it's my fault for not having one of these earlier for comparison. Hmm, I just swirled in a few dreg, and it kind of added an umami and yeast taste.

Bottle. Reddish amber colour with a minor head. Aroma is dried fruits, plum, some mild alcohol, spiciness and some sweet malty tones to it. Flavour is dried dark fruits, some berries, mild yeasty spiciness with some alcohol, toffee and mild burnt sugary tones.

2015 bottle, thanks to Joe! Pours dark brown, with a small, fleeting, beige head. The aroma is plums, allspice, wet paper, sherry, and cocoa. Sweet and sugary, with a nice bitterness. Medium to heavy body, with a syrupy, spicy palate. Well aged. Has a lot of character and depth.

Very nicely done. Smoke and raisin with prune and florals like a dried fruit amd cheese dish before dinner. Dark brown pour. Sweet finish. Great balance.

12 ounce bottle. Pours a murky garnet color with a small creamy beige head. Rich stone fruit aroma is sweet and complex. Sweet dark dried fruit leads off this intensely flavored Quad. Notes of apricot, raisins, plums and sweet cherries. Big warming alcohol and medicinal notes. Complex, yet unrefined. Finish has notes of cough syrup, lemon peel and bittersweet malt.
