The real black beer of the Ur-Krostitzer brand experienced its renaissance in 1998. The recipe for the oldest Schwarzbier in the region was found in a brewing manual that has been carefully kept in the archives of the brewery. Thanks to the experience and passion of the master brewers, this recipe could be translated to today's needs.

Draught @ Classik Hotel, Magdeburg. Pours clear dark amber with a tan head, light lacings. Aroma of roasted malt, toasted bread, light coffee. Flavor is sweet, very lightly bitter, roast malt, toasted bread, light coffee, little dried fruit. Medium body, average carbonation, light sweet light bitter finish. 280325

Draft pours dark reddish brown-black with thick tan head that reduces to lace. Soft watery mouthfeel with a pleasant balance leaning toward a sweet malty flavor that is not too pronounced. Very nice! Tasted at Leo’s Brasserie, Leipzig, Germany.

Big thank you to kappldav123 for this 0,5 l bottle. A darkest red brwon in the glass with an huge nearly three finger steady pale beige head. Looks really good. Malty with some sweetness aroma. Taste starts roasty malty, bready, sweetness way behind in the background. Nice one.

01.12.2022 - 0.5l bottle from edeka in charlottenburg, bb 06.2023. pours a dark chestnut with a medium off-white head. aroma of dried fruits, dates, toffee. flavour of roasted malts, ash, not very sweet.

Ur-Krostitzer Schwarzbier, Flasche von Edeka, Berlin. - Tiefdunkles, fast schwarzes Kastanienrotbraun, klar; sehr üppiger Schaum. - In der Nase mattes Röstmalz, leichter Mokka, zart säuerliche Herbe, nur blasse Hopfung. - Antrunk schlank und rund röstmalzig mit Brotkruste und milder Kaffeenote, die in feine herbale Hopfenherbe übergeht. Dezente Süße, nur milde Anklänge an Karamel. Milder rezent, schlank. Im trockenen Abgang runde Malzbittere und blasse Hopfenherbe, zart erdig. - Gar nicht übles Schwarzbier, schlank und sehr süffig, auch etwas kerniger als die Konkurrenz aus Köstritz. Eine zarte seifige Note verliert sich mit der Zeit. (11.6.2021.)
