Carlsberg 47 was Carlsberg’s first, strong Christmas beer, originally brewed for the first time in 1972 on the occasion of Carlsberg’s 125th anniversary. It should only have been on the market for that one year, but its great taste quickly gained with beer connoisseurs and has had a permant place in Carlsberg Group’s product portfolio ever since. Carlsberg 47 is released every year around the time of Carlsberg Breweries’ birthday in early November and is available until the New Year. The taste is round and sweet, as a Christmas beer should be. The roasted caramel aromas blend themselves with a tasty bite in the aftertaste, and the dark color suits the season nicely.

Clear dark amber, frothy offwhite head. Sweet, malty and hoppy aroma. Sweetish, bitter flavour with caramel. Rough, alcoholic finish. Can’t believe I used to chug this at Christmas, but now I know where the headache came from...

Copperish amber colored, low quite dissipating white head. Aroma is sweet caramel, candied fruit. Taste is medium sweet caramel, malt and again candied fruits, apples and pears. Some low bitterness in the finish. Medium bodied.

Can picked up in when visiting Jan & Charlotte, Denmark May 2013 consumed at Truck Festival, Steventon, Oxon 19.07.13 Quite different from many that you might have from Carlsberg. However like some of there beers there was rather a distinct lack of hops but plenty of malts. This was sweet, but not too bad, a little chewy but also quite distinctive, in fact all in all not bad. Consumed in a barn whilst watching the utterly superb Bo Ningen with the aroma of cowshit all around. A6 A4 T6 P3 Ov12 3.1

Canned. Drunk as I was after the first day at the beer festival and a good session at the Mikkeller Bar, much thanks to the bartender från Småland, I went by the railway station on my way back to the hotel, and somehow managed to find this one in one of the shops/stalls over there... Good final of the evening enjoyed while walking to the hotel and finished in the hotel room. Quite much amber colour, with a small off-white head, that left good lace. Aroma is fruity alcohol, some caramel malts as well as mild metallic notes. Flavour is rich on the malts, alcohol, caramel, bread and toffee. Actually not that offensive.

500ml can picked up at the Railway station in Copenhagen. Spotty lacework from a partially lasting off-white head. Clear amber coloured body. Modest malt-fruity smell. Similar, but richer, malt-fruity taste, caramel, earth and mid-dried fruits. Mild malt bitter ending, mostly integrated alcohol. Maybe the best one from the brewery (hotel room, Copenhagen 24.05.2013).

Can from 7/11, Copenhagen - Dark amber pour with small off white head. Heavy sweet caramel malt, and dark fruit and light hoppy nuances I wasn’t expecting from this. Overall not as bad as I thought it was going to be. Ok.
