Lightfoot is named after a brewery in Masham which Theakston took over in 1919. The Lightfoot and Theakston families were very close and indeed linked through marriage and therefore it was a natural amalgamation of two well-established businesses. For many years it was rumoured that Theakston took over Lightfoot because they had a better cricket team something that was deemed unacceptable to the brewers in Red Lane! Lightfoot has always been a popular seasonal ale in fact so much so that in 2010 it became a permanent addition to our range and is now available all year round. It's light, fruity flavour makes it an ideal accompaniment to light curries, seafood dishes and summer salads or on a hot summer’s day perfect just on its own!

12/7/2021. Cask at the Old Hall Hotel, Hope. Pours clear golden amber with a creamy white head. Aroma is sweet malt, floral, fruity, caramel, bready notes. Quite heavy sweetness and light bitterness. Moderate body, soft carbonation. Turned a little tart. Wasn’t great.

From wooden cask, third shared with Finn at Manchester Beer & Cider Festival, Wood Bar. Clear golden body, dissipating white head, clingy lacing. Malt-fruity aromas, floral hops and bread. Oily hops and bread-like malts to the taste profile. Malt-fruity, bittersweet tail. Satisfying. (2nd day of the festival, 23.01.2020).

Nose is yeast, citrus. Taste is buttery, lemon grass, yeast, malt, cereal. Finish is astringent and the lemon becomes slightly cleaning fluid. The yeast is also bafflingly present, almost like a Belgian blond, but doesn’t really come together into a cohesive whole.

Cask at Edmunds Brew House, 04/02/17. Clear golden with a decent off white head. Nose is pale malts, straw, light orange, bready notes. Taste comprises lemon rind, grass, grains, light bread dough. Medium bodied, soft carbonation, semi drying close with light bitterness. Bit of a nothing beer ... in good nick just doesn’t deliver much at the business end!
