Based on a 200-year-old recipe for Porter, a brew whose popularity changed English beer-making methods in the mid-1750s. A dark full-flavoured beer but smoother and less bitter than stout. Made with softened water, Propeller London Porter is a blend of pale, roasted and chocolate malts, hopped with English and North American varieties.

On tap at Propeller in Halifax. Pours out dark brown topped with a rocky tan head. Aroma was of sweet chocolate, dark roast, caramel, and a touch of smoke. Taste was more of the sweetness, some pit fruit, a touch of brown sugar, and a little of that smoke on the end.

Bought this one in Edmonston, N.B. when I was on tour with my band (summer of 2009 and drank February 2010). Comes in a bomber bottle and pours a dark brown with red highlights. Its head is big, beige, creamy with great retention and creamy-bubbly lacing. The nose is mostly roasted malt with some hop, nuts and only little notes of coffee and chocolate. Not too thick of a mouthfeel, but not too watery either. Just a little sticky and kind of refreshing as well. The taste is good, but not too powerful. Roasted malt again mostly, with some toffee, coffee and mild bitterness from the hop. Overall well-balanced and not so-punchy London porter to be easy-drinking.

Bottled at Stockholm Beer and Whiskey Festival 2007. A brown beer with a red shine under a thin rim of tan head. The aroma is sweet malty with a weird vegetable note. The flavor is sweet malty with notes of fruit as well as a lighter note of roasted malt, leading to a dry bitter and roasted finish. The body is thin.

Bottle. [ Courtesy of OKBeer ] Clear medium brown color with a average, frothy, fair lacing, mostly lasting, beige head. Aroma is moderate malty, roasted, milk chocolate, toffee, light licorice notes. Flavor is moderate sweet with a average duration. Body is "light to medium" to medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft. (261007)

(Bottle, Stockholm Beer Festival, 22 Sep 2007) Very dark brown, almost black colour with brief, pale brown head. Roasted, malty nose with dark chocolate and notes of smoke. Roasted, malty taste with dark chocolate, cocoa and generous amounts of coffee bitterness in the finish. Smooth and velvety, but lots of taste. Good example of a robust, traditional porter.

22oz bomber graciously gifted by JoeMcPhee. thanks a lot Joe. Poured into a small tulip glass with barely any head that lead to barely any lacing, just a small thin crescent off-white lacing. Pitch black beer. Aroma is a full rich coffee with hints of chocolate. From what I consider a London Porter (with Fullers as the standard) this does a nice job of recreating the aroma. A good roast coffee aroma. Taste is not as rich as the aroma. Watered down coffee with sweet cola flavors. Slight coffee bitterness flavors in the aftertaste. Low bitterness, very drinkable medium-light body.
Stamped 2nd week of December, year unknown.
