6th May 2010. Copenhagen Beer Festival. Cloudy amber beer. No head. Wet dog and malt nose. Dry and semi crisp palate. Light dry toffee malt with an alcoholic bite. Softer toffee malt comes through with some spicy licorice. Overall the beer feels a bit tired.

Bottle, 12%. Fat malt syrup aroma. Almost clear dark copper colour. Small frothy white head. The flavour is quite sweet and caramelly. Has a little metal note in the finish, Lots of alcohol, but not too much for the style. Creamy and dusty with some dried fruit. OK bitterness in the finish to round off. This still has 9 months to go unitil its expiry date, but I am convinced it would improve with at least a year more from now.

Bottle. Pours a hazy, orange body with a beige head. Heavy malty aroma with beef-stock and sweetness, as well as fruity hops. Sweet and fruity flavor too, with a beef-stocky, long malty finish. Full body. Can’t really decide if it’s lovely or just nice, I guess it’s just nice, but that ain’t bad either. Rating: 7-4-7-4-14-3.6. 071228

Bottle, as Vintage Beer 2008. A clear-looking dark amber beer with a minimal head. Quite oily pour. Sugary, malty and slightly meaty nose where there’s also room for a touch of licorice, some hops and a gose of caramel. Warming on the palate, rounded and full-bodied. Sufficient carbonation. The flavor has mostly caramel maltyness and fruityness, hints of licorice and dried fruits. Lasting and warming finish. A nice barley wine, without being world class in any way. 110716
