Some call it the Heart of the Ocean here at AE. Others call it the most vengeful stout you’ll ever taste. We call it, Jack’s Revenge. This traditional Oatmeal Stout is brewed with copious amounts of oats, which provide a beautiful creaminess yet still have a soft roastiness from the dark malts we include in our grain bill.

Bottle from Beers of Europe, consumed outside my tent at Towersey Festival Dark brown with little head to speak of, quite smokey on the aroma but with some bitter chocolate and coffee in there. Coffee more prominent in the taste, very tasty beer by the way, dark fruits and nicely underpinned with a good solid malty base, lovely beer.

Cask@GBBF2007. Dark amber colour, small brown head. Aroma is caramel, wood, some slight roast and a bit of coffee. Flavour is coffee, roasted malts and some wooden hints. Redreshing and nice.

Dark brown with a big and lasting creamy off-white head. Fruity and roast aroma with dates, raisin, chocolate and licorice. Rich and malty flavour roast complexity. Could be a little brother to my favourite beer in the world, Ølfabrikken Porter.

Cask gravity at GBBF 2007, bottled bright and drunk on train home. Very deep ruby with no head. Decent choc and coffee. Good English porter, smooth, rounded. Nice. Superb English portery style beer actually.
