keg at Dusty Bucket, Bexley. Inky. No reflection from the void. Frothy been head forms a thin ring around the rim. Molasses sweetness. A hint of bitterness on the edge - espresso and charcoal. Thick. Oily. Average-fizzy carbonation. Long slightly astringent finish. Big but kinda nondescript Impy Stout. I ignored the veg element.

On tap at the Clapton Hart - London. What an odyssey to try this beer. Wasn’t yet tapped when I stopped by yesterday. Went on last night and there was still some left today so, given it is a nice and sunny day, I decided to cycle eight miles up here. Upon arriving and ordering the beer, the bar girl said they were having gas issues with their casks and weren’t serving any. I had to flash a smile and coax a bit, but she relented and poured me a half; the beer poured fine and is in great shape. Which brings us to the rate. The beer pours thick like molasses, black-brown and with a lasting, mocha foam head. The mint certainly comes through on the snout, blended well with the rich, dark malts that evoke a high quality dark chocolate. Medium to big sweet flavor with sturdy roasted malts, some York peppermint patty, cocoa, light alcohol, some earth, char. Full bodied with fine carbonation and slightly syrupy. The finish is at once warm and cool: warm from the alcohol and cooled by the menthol-like mint character. Also some bittersweet chocolate, baking cocoa, hints of brown sugar, dark toast. Rich, ballsy stuff overall. Quite glad I made the journey up here.
