Brewed in small batches and matured in the brewery cellar, like a fine wine. Made from high quality English malted barley, Kent Goldings hops are added for bitterness and aroma and Bramling Cross to further enhance the character, resulting in deep, rich and complex flavours of sultanas, orange peel and plums. Enjoy as you would a fortified wine, in a wine glass or a brandy balloon, to concentrate its wonderful aroma.

275ml bottle from Bentalls of Bracknell. A reddish colour with no head and a heavy aroma of sweet tropical fruit - apricots and dates; very tingly in the mouth, with again intense tropical fruit flvaours and a very strong and obvious alcoholic base; a soft tasty bitter finish.

Bottle. Best before 21APR08. Aroma of ripe stone fruits, sultanas, malt, and a bit of alcohol. Translucent ruby orange color with virtually no head. Starts with fruity malt. Arguably medium mouthfeel. A little woody. Very light belgian candy aspects. A bit vinous, and the hop isn’t all that bitter. The finish is very dry, and the mouth is left puckerish. It seems to change a bit with each sip. Suspect it might go quite plummy with a few more years. Spectacular.

Cask Medium yellowish and very persistent head over red-foxy beer. Mixture of old wine with nuts, sour cherris, slightly acidic portwine. Drier, nearly bitter taste, flavour of bitter chocolater. Gets only vinous in the ende even a bit like fortified wine, strawberry flavoured. Lots of restsugars giving a sticky, near syrupy texture, especially after swallowing. It’s only in the aftertaste taht I get some dry hopoil, on fleeting whiffs. Nice strong ale in the better (sweet) UK tradition.

Bottled. A copper-colored beer with a small beige head and lots of floaties. It has an aroma starting off with alcohol and dried fruits, with sweetness, malt, hops and caramel coming later. The flavor is sweet and malty, with lots of hops and some alcohol. Full body and a dry, slightly astringent finish with some roastiness. A nice beer with a nice, long bitterness. (060513)
