This beer has its orgin in the Bavarian beer type ’festbier’ or ’oktoberfestbier’. Like ’festbier’ and ’vienna style beer’, Nils Oscar Kalasöl is of a somewhat darker type. The Nils Oscar Kalasöl is produced with both münchenermalt, dark caramelmalt, chocolatmalt and some roasted barley. The choice of hops is a mix of four kinds where the most characteristic are brittish fuggles, american cascade and czech saaz.
Kalasöl is a rounded beer with a mildly roasted breadish character. It can be recommended together with heavy foods, like joints of roast meat, spicy stews, broiled meat and fowl.

Bottle. Very malty, slightly roasted aroma. Copper colour, small creamy head. Dusty, malty, roasted flavour. Some hop aroma, bitter aftertaste. Smooth mouthfeel.

Dark copper brown, very small white head. Aroma of malt and a bit of caramel. Strong malty taste, and a dry aftertaste. Wellbalanced. It took me a while to "get used" to the strong malt taste, but before my glass was empty I liked it much.

Bottled (BB 03/2005)
Dark copper brown with small off-white head. Excellent aroma of barley/bread with hints of caramel. Medium-bodied, malty with good balance of bread-like barley and soft flowery hops. Also roasted tones found. Balanced märzen (one of the best in this style), only finish is lacking some extra tickles. As in this style often, gives a long dry aftertaste to mouth.

An amber beer with no head. The aroma is sweet of a good maltblend and notes of brewmash. The flavor is lovely sweet, brewmashy, malty, caramelic and ends on a dry bitterness. A nice beer.

Beautiful amber colour. Original aroma of malt and other grains. Interesting flavour, of malt, quite aromatic hop, other grains (unmalted?), also similar to some bitter or Scottish brews. Well hopped palate, with pretty good aromas, but with a less pleasant dry bitterness at the very end.

Reddish brown. Above aevrgare body, complex, almost playful hoppiness, roasty. Bitter finish. As always from this brewery an interesting high quality brew.

Wonderful Munich lager with a deep copper colour and lots of complex maltiness.
