3 Floyds, Dark Matter and Mastodon collaborated on a special release to mark National Suicide Prevention Week and raise funds for Hope for the Day, an organization that helps people and families of all shapes and sizes deal with mental health issues and suicide prevention.
This project is called "Crack the Skye," after the Mastodon album of the same name, which was dedicated to the Skye Dailor, the sister of Mastodon drummer Brann Dailor. Skye died of suicide at the age of 14, which had an obvious impact on her friends and family.
The beer has a special meaning for Brann, the band, Dark Matter and 3 Floyds, with proceeds benefiting Hope for the Day.

Bottle shared in Keystone - cheers to the Duke! Pours oily black-brown with a foamy, beige head. Scorched earth in the nose, baking cocoa, ash. Medium sweet flavour with notes of brownies, milk chocolate, subtle coffee, dried dark berries, raisins. Medium to full bodied with average carbonation. Warming finish, with notes of burnt peanut shells, more cocoa, dried berries. Very good.

Tap at J’s. Pours a pitch black with a finger of beige foam that lingers. Huge roasted coffee nose, deep espresso, just endless ad jumps out of the glass. Cacao nib as it warms. Deep cacao on the palate, vanilla and milk chocolate. Well-balanced. Wow, this is really killer.
