3 Floyds, Dark Matter and Mastodon collaborated on a special release to mark National Suicide Prevention Week and raise funds for Hope for the Day, an organization that helps people and families of all shapes and sizes deal with mental health issues and suicide prevention.
This project is called "Crack the Skye," after the Mastodon album of the same name, which was dedicated to the Skye Dailor, the sister of Mastodon drummer Brann Dailor. Skye died of suicide at the age of 14, which had an obvious impact on her friends and family.
The beer has a special meaning for Brann, the band, Dark Matter and 3 Floyds, with proceeds benefiting Hope for the Day.

Bottle from an IP(?) trade, I forgot with whom. Pitch black color. Light brown head with some retention. Aroma's: from the bottle there's vanilla upfront; from the glass: big coffee roast vanilla, sweetness, maple syrup. Retronasal it's sweet, coffee, roast, vanilla. Flavor is moderate sweet and moderate roasted bitter. Fairly strong alcohol feel and rather full bodied. Long finish with roast, rather bitter.

Not exactly straight up coffee in a cup, but pretty close. Additional notes of cocoa, caramel and molasses. Smoith, well-balanced. Nice! 4.3

On tap at HopCat, pours black with a small tan head. Aroma is absolutely decadent, with heavy bourbon and coffee. Flavour is intense, with loads of coffee upfront, followed by a bit less bourbon. What a decadent bourbon and coffee bomb. Fantastic.
