Due to its authenticity, Earthmonk received as little sugar as possible during bottle conditioning in order to preserve all original aromas and flavours. This beer comes with little carbonation and a mini head. Is best served at cellar temperature and poured generously, meaning from a hight of approximately 15 to 20 CM, in an upright standing tulip glass. A big bubbled head will quickly make place for the Earthmonk coming alive!

Keg at The Wedding. Pours hazy brown with a modest head. Heavy sour notes and strong acidity. Flavor is piercingly sour with an almost vinaigrette character, along with light sweetness and hints of caramel. Medium bodied with fine carbonation. Sour and acidic finish, hints of oak and dark fruits. Very good. (4.0)
Draft at ACBF 2011. Pours dark brown with a faint, filmy head. Sour cherry nose, light fruity sugars. Super sour flavor with mild sweetness, some rindy bitterness, other fruits. Medium bodied with lively carbonation. Sharp, clean sour finish, some cherry fruits, faint dry and dark sugars. Very, very good. (4.2)

Keg at MesandSim’s crazy wedding party! It pours very dark brown, with a thin foamy tan head and soft carbonation. The nose is sweet balsamic vinegar, tart cherry, malt vinegar, varnish, liquorice, dark chocolate, permanent marker pen and petrol. The taste is balsamic vinegar, cherry, sweet strawberry, tar, charcoal, soy sauce, varnish, petrol, tar, raisin, malt vinegar, molasses and treacle, with a sweet-tart finish. Well balanced, complex, interesting and very drinkable. A classy beer.

Sampled from a bottle with a hinged porcelain top. Thanks to Anker for sharing. Opaque, dark-brown body. No head whatsoever. Sour-sweet smell of fruits and caramel malts. Vinous taste containing tart berries, oak and malts. Long-lived finish of sourness and sweetness. A mellow and palate cleansing brew (Copenhagen, 27.05.2011).

I tasted the 2007 and 2009 version. One of the best beers of the Struise brewers. Perfect balance between sweet, sour and bitter. I wish i had more of these.

(23/04/2011) 2007 Vintage bottle@Kulminator: brown with dark red colour with a small white head, taste is deep, tart & sour with balsamic and red wine vinegar & red wine with sour fruits and acidic wood + dark cherries, sour red berries, sherry, sugar,… despite the bold flavours straying into sour/vinegar/acidic territory, this is extremely balanced, not puckering sour and easy to drink, mouthfeel is smooth but quite thick as well at the same time, very little carbonation which is just perfect //// 2011 edition@Kulminator: just issued, almost sweet with some brown sugar compared with the 2007 Vintage with red wine like flavours overpowering balsamic & wine vinegar, sourness is very restrained, red fruit, touch of wood, one notch lighter body, very good, liked the 2007 a bit more //// upped the score from 4.7 to 4.8 - the 2007 is getting crazily sour now & 2011 is beginning to develop nicely, this is still one of the best sours around, wonderful brew that I like to revisit from time to time //// scored 4.9 for the 2007. had some really good 2005’s also, still don’t like 2008 ///// Had a 2005 in 2013, too oxidated now ///////////////////////////////////////////////////// Since it is can no longer be rated, I have decided to put my review of Aardnon here: Slightly blackish dark brown with a red hue and some beige bubbles. Nose is a bit ruled by oxidation given the base beers age, light dusty with tobacco leaves, sticky dark fruits, very light balsamic vinegar. Tastes lightly musty, dark fruits, some prunes & figs, tobacco leaves, burned / heavily roasted coffee and chocolate, very interesting, almost lightly roasted malts, cacao, light touch of balsamic vinegar and tangy red cherries and some cherry pits, sweet malts. Very smooth & full. Quite good – unfortunately I never really liked the 2008 Vintage of Aardmonnik – 2007 on the other hand is one of the greatest sours in existence – love drinking that one regularly. 2005 is pretty good as well. I need a bigger sour kick – I think 2007 Aardmonnik is still the place to be for me. Still this is quite interesting. 4.1/5 /////// 4.9 rating is obv. only for the Aardmonnik, no impact by Aardnon
