Tap at Gremlin. Bit of marker pen, chocolate, some roast. Taste is good. Nice and roasty, but easy going. Light chocolate at end, but it's dark chocolate. Good stuff.

Tap at Komachi. Dull black with lace. Cocoa nose, with some soy and coffee. More soy in the flavor but mostly cocoa. Rather light and thin. Ok, but was expecting something bigger. --- Beer merged from original tick of Sweet Chocolate Stout on 09 Feb 2010 at 16:00 - Score: Appearance - 8 | Aroma - 7 | Flavor - 7 | Texture - 8 | Overall - 7. Original review text: Bottle from Yamaoka. 2010 version. Pitch black with a tall, bubbly tan head. Roasty, creamy aroma, with wood, a bit of dried fruit. Sweet flavor, creamy and rich, with bittersweet chocolate and café au lait, but not overly sweet and well balanced by woody, roasted malts. There is also a slightly tangy, sour edge. Strong bitter finish clears the palate up nicely. This is rich, smooth, and tasty, with good balance. Nice stuff.

Tap at Watering Hole Noboribetsu Setsubun tap-takeover. Deep brown with a small beige head. Big milk chocolate aromas with some light espresso notes. Roasted malt on the palate with some light bitterness, but good milk chocolate flavors with some cacao nib bitterness on the finish. This is solid. --- Beer merged from original tick of Chocolate Stout on 05 Feb 2016 at 22:26 - Score: 7

On tap at Qbrick’s Strong Beer Event. Another great looking pitch black pour with a light beige head. Served in a nonic half-pint glass. Somewhat too cold a pour initially all I get is a vague umami & light chocolate. Medium to full smooth body, bitter dark chocolate with lots of umami richness. Smooth, light licorice, dark chocolate, hints of bitter coffee beams. A very smooth beer, well done an impressive beer from Noboribetsu, this must have been aggressive at first but after 2 years has really mellowed out into coherent chocolate stouty goodness.
