Clear golden and copper coloured body with a relatively thin one to two centimetre tall tan head with the faintest hazy amber glow near the top. Aroma of alcohol, metal, grain, resin, honey, grapefruit and floral notes, all with some astringency and bitterness, too. Medium-bodied; Strong biting bitterness shows at first with flowers, grass, malt, honey, metallic funk, grain and a pungent grassy and floral hop bitterness that is somehow stronger than the metal and alcohol. Aftertaste shows the grapefruit zest front and centre with a large malt, honey and grassy flavour as well, with a lot of pungency throughout along with an astringency and deep alcohol bite with some mellow fruity and honey sweetness at the end. Overall, a deep and pungent beer that has the grapefruit and grassy strongest, but the alcohol and metal is strong too. An acceptable beer, but other Masthead beers are better and this definitely shows 8,3 per cent. Still nice to try from Ohio of course, but others are better in the style or from the brewery. I sampled this sixteen ounce, pint-sized can, purchased from the Department of Beer and Wine in Alexandria, Virginia on 18-September-2020 for US$4,49 sampled at my house here in Washington on 11-October-2020.
