High West Bourbon/Rye Blend aged for 7 months. Layers of complexity emerge with notes of soft caramel and smoky oak over a dark chocolate and roasted almond body.
We partnered with our friends at High West® Distillery to create a barrel-aged version of Ballast Point Victory at Sea, our award-winning Imperial Porter with cold-steeped coffee and vanilla. From a blend of Ballast Point Victory at Sea aged in High West’s own bourbon & rye whiskey oak casks, new layers of complexity emerge with notes of soft caramel and smoky oak over a dark chocolate and roasted almond body. High West crafts delicious and distinctive whiskeys to honor the American West, making it the perfect pairing with our signature San Diego-born porter.

Rating number 3900. 12 ounce bottle. Vintage dated 2018. Opaque black pour. Small creamy tan head disapates quickly. Sweet roasted malt nose hints at whiskey and vanilla. First sip brings big roasty notes. Lots going on here. Oak, vanilla, coffee, warming alcohol and bittersweet chocolate. Quite complex, though a bit rough. Could benefit from some cellaring. Well done.

On tap at Harlem Hops. Pours black with a tan head. Chocolate, peanut, vanilla, booze, syrupy booze, brandy, dried fruit, cranberry, nice peppery vanilla rye thing near the finish. Thin body. Too subtle with the body, and not subtle enough with the alcohol. This goes in the same pile as all the other Victory At Sea variants I've had: I don't get it.

Bottle surprisingly, from a Hong Kong convenience store. Poured a clear dark, brown colour with a mostly lasting frothy light tan head. The aroma is roasty malt, caramel, vanilla, liqouirce, boozy alcohol. The flavour is moderate sweet, red berry fruits, chocolate, vanilla palate. Medium to full bodied with soft carbonation.
