Porter has a storied past and was once the everyday beer of the English. A complex malt base gives chocolate, coffee and roasted flavours, and a medium-full body is balanced with a dry finish that aids drinkability. This recipe uses New World hops for bold tropical and resinous notes, providing a modern, hop-focused take on a style with a long history.

440ml can, as A W18 One-off Porter, shared with Finn and Visionthing at Agenturet Øl og Vinbar. Remaining, bubbly, tan head, spotty lacing, coal black in the glass. Roasted malty aromas, hints of coffee and dark fruits. Blended taste profile of chocolate, coffee and resinous moments towards the ending. Medium bodied. Pleasing. (Tromsø 14.05.2019).

44cl can shared by Rune - thanks a lot! Dark, dark brown with a beige head. Roasty and rather hoppy, with chocolaty and piney notes. Moderate sweet with medium flavour intensity and nice bitterness. Nice one!

Can from Cotteridge Wines, Birmingham, shared with the KL tasting crew. Poured a clear dark brown colour with a thin broken off white head. The aroma is roasty malt, grassy citrus hop. The flavour is moderate liquorice bitter with a roasty, dry malt, grassy citrus fruit, dry spicy hop bitter palate and a lingering bitter finish. Medium bodied with average carbonation.

440ml can. Pours black with a big frothy tan head, good retention. Aroma of intense piney hops and roast malts. Taste is again intensely hoppy, piney, citrus, roast malts, chocolate, coffee, earthy, very very bitter. Medium bodied, soft carbonation. By far the hoppiest Porter I've ever had, this is well within Black IPA territory and it's a good one too. Really surprised they call this a Porter.

Can from Beerfly, Bedford. Extremely dark muddy brown, with a large tan head. An outrageous hit of pine needles and liquorice attack the nose but there is also chocolate and a bit of spearmint. Bittersweet taste with chocolate and fruity hop, finishing with a chalky coffee bitter. Coffee grounds and pine in the aftertaste. Light body, medium to heavy carbonation. Great, great stuff.

Can at home, 03/11/18. Pitch black with a lasting dirty tan head ... proper looking porter! Nose is roast malt, light pine, hop dust, treacle toffee, liqourice, charr. Taste comprises pine resin, roast malts, bitter sweet, cocoa powder, dried fruits, toffee. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, drying close peppered with earthy hop bittereness. Solid top class porter ... pretty hoppy and would easily class as a CDA under blind tasting conditions.

Opaque beer, brown head. Smells of malt, pine and hops. Taste is malt, dry hop, some fruit, a dash of chocolate. An interesting blend, like a black IPA but richer and with a maltier hit. Bitter finish with an airy, spiced feel. Nice, interesting porter.
