Bottled. Ambery brown colour with a mediumsized beige head, which leaves some lace. Aroma is roasted, some peaty and mild smoked wooden tones with some alcohol, yeast and mild spiciness. Flavour is chocolaty, some spiciness, mild yeast, some syrupy tones along with a bit toasted tones. Silky smooth, and actually not that bad.

Bottled 330ml (Etre-Gourmet)
Dark ruby-red colour, steady beige head. Not much Islay in the nose but red berries and whiskey-like alcohol. Medium to full-bodied. Soft palate. Toffee, caramel, low bitterness. Probably barrel ageing has done the smoothness but Islay is not really dominating here. Not typical De Ranke either. Some vanilla but not much of peat or smoke but when it warms up some notes of Islay. Hides alcohol well. Easy sipper.

Collab of Six Degrees North with De Ranke, thanks Stefan for sharing. A quad aged on Islay whisky barrels, with thick and dense, creamy, pale yellowish beige head and very dark but translucent bronze robe with burgundy brown hue. Aroma of chestnuts, stewed pear, cola, vanilla-ish oak, candied fig, some light peat (as in: real moist peat, not so much the iodine), blackberry jam, banana, almond, treacle, toffee, liquorice. Fruity onset but in a ’clean’ and orderly way, some banana, black cherry, fig, sourish elderberry-like accent, candi sugar sweetness but nothing obnoxiously cloying, bit oily mouthfeel, softish carbo. Caramelly malt sweet core, nutty, bit resinous; again the peat aspect remains subtle and limited, though a whisky-ish flavour is noticeable, including an afterglow of warming alcohol; some tea-ish herbal hops provide soft bitterishness but it is the candi sugary sweetness that remains. Bit unusual quadrupel-ish beer, technically well executed, but my expectations were higher considering De Ranke’s contribution and this could have been more ’deeply’ peated for me as well.

330 ml. bottle sampled @ Vini Birre Ribelli 2016. Dark brown amber, little head. Nose is varnish plastic, chemical iodine with thinned out milk chocolate malts. Taste is harsh chemical, low booze, plastic, iodine, peat, charred barrel, low roasted, vague chocolate malt, base beer doesn’t appear to be all that interesting, barrel is far too thick for me. Body is iodine, chemical, plastic. I would expect something far better for a beer that has De Ranke attached to it.
