Poesiat & Kater’s Van Vollenhoven Extra Stout is based on a recipe from the original Van Vollenhoven brewery that existed in Amsterdam during the 18th century. It has a rich full malt body with roasted flavor notes. This was the top selling beer in the Netherlands in the second half of the 19th century and was shipped all over the world.
Poesiat & Kater's Van Vollenhoven Extra Stout is our flagship beer and we are proud to be making it once again for beer lovers today.

On tap at Poesiat & Kater, pours a deep dark brown with a red tinge and a medium beige head. Aroma brings out lots of earthy malt, low roast, and some charcoal. Flavour is very dry as well, with earthy malt, dry cocoa, and a little chalky coal. Smooth and earthy mouthfeel. Not bad.

Tap @ Café Morshuis. Almost black. Roasted malt and salted licorice in the aroma. Medium to full bodied. Malty sweetish flavor with roast and plums. Salted licorice. Hint of tartness. Very nice.

Thuis uit een flesje. Bijna zwart, geen schuim, jammer. Aroma matig, smaak ok, aardige bitterheid in de nasmaak. Niet heel bijzonder.
