Deep robust dark brown coloured body with a thinnish, single to perhaps two centimetre tall off-white head that shows nicely and stays afloat for a while. Aroma of pure ginger, nuts, earth, grain, light caramelised sugars, a dash of allspice and nutmeg and a tiny bit of coffee and chocolate as well. Medium-bodied; Strong robust earthy and malt notes dominate with a lot of earthy and peaty flavours showing with nuts, caramelised sugars, toffee and of course - bunches of the spices, including ginger and allspice with some canella and nutmeg towards the end, along with a light touch of coffee and chocolate that add some extra complexities. Aftertaste is deep and ranging from the spice notes that show up at first and make it taste like it's Christmas out there, even though it's sunny and hot, since it's San Diego, but a good balance of malt, alcohol, nuts and deeper bitter caramelised sugars make this complex. Overall, a nice and enjoyable holiday porter that shows a good amount of spice and complexities without being overtaken by them or the alcohol - this is a nice drinking beer, perfect for this time of year, yes, even in California! I sampled this half pint pour on draught at the Brewpub in San Diego (Knoxville Tasting Room) on 31-December-2019, New Year's Eve 2019 with my family and my aunt while visiting California!
