The quality, care and dedication that goes into Crown Lager is evident from the first sip.

Crown Lager has a bright golden appearance with a solid creamy head. The fruity aroma leads to a malty refreshing taste with a smooth, full bodied finish. The slightly lingering bitterness gives a balanced, rounded experience which will leave you wanting more.

Our Brew Masters set the most stringent specifications for malting barley to ensure that the barley used in Crown is of Australia’s highest quality.

A handful of the 1,267 registered barley growers around the country qualify to supply this grade for Crown Lager. From this group, a selection of growers are chosen that Crown can confidently attest are ‘Australia’s Finest’ barley farmers.

Balancing a fine line between art and science - years of raw farming experience, technological backing and investment come together to create the key ingredient in every Crown Lager brew.

Our Brew Masters, working in conjunction with farmers at Rostrevor Hop Gardens, select from the Pride of Ringwood’s family of hops at harvest time in March every year. This ensures the very best hops are used exclusively for Crown Lager.

The season’s first choice of hops enable our Brew Masters to better target the specific qualities within the hops that are used for the Crown Lager brew. These hops give a cleaner, smoother bitterness, providing Crown Lager with the distinctive finish that drinkers have savoured for generations.

My friend Mart bought a case of 24 of these when I visited him in Doha, Qatar. Pours a golden colour with an off-white head, decent retention and nice film lacing all-around. A thin coating also stays on the brew the whole time. The scent is pilsner-like with some malt. Smooth mouthfeel with a little stickiness at the end. Malty taste with a bit of hop in the finish and grain showing up in the aftertaste. Not a bad Australian lager, but thicker than other lagers I had here. Harder to drink many of these (compared to the Beck’s - which I also had many).

From a 375ml bottle on 20/11/2010. You’d be hard pressed to be able to tell this apart from Carlton Draught if you did a blind tasting. The barely perceptible aroma is not particularly nice. Taste wise it’s just a bit of slightly chemical malt sweetness, finished off by a very moderate bitterness. If this delivers a "creamy fruit taste and rich, malty palate", I’m the Pope. A horrible pale lager with almost nil personality. Loses marks for trying to con the foolish into believing it’s something special with its fancy bottle and label, and premium price. If this is the type of beer that blows your hair back, go a Carlton Draught - at least its cheaper and lacks the pretension.

Standard pale lager appearance, although the head shows some persistence...Aroma is pretty horrible. Dirty, grainy aussie malt, no hop aroma (guessing isohops is used).Flavours are equally boring, if slightly more palateble. Sweet grainy malt and some weak plain bitterness.Pretty high carbonation.First beer that’s made me feel sick after half a glass.

Sample from 330 ml bottle, as Crown Lager, at the Brewery International stand, Smak 09. ABV is 4.9%. Golden colour, low head. Fruity aroma. Fairly fruity and zesty flavour, some estery sidenotes, low bitterness. Not a great beer, but drinkable.

aroma sort of boring, but relatively strong. looks real great, clear yellow with nice smallish white head, looks refreshing flavor is a slight sour, and generally boring - thirst quencher, but far from the best, also a little watery (should not be at 4.9%) another version: aroma like cheap beer, sunburned beer. poured clear yellow with very large and thick head for a macro. flavor was sweet and dry, sweetness subtle and good balance for the bitterness (from hops i think) flavor 6 or 7. palate 3 (nice and soft) overall 11. Bottle claimed contents to be brewed by CROWN BEVERAGES, 77 southbank boulevard, southbank, victoria 3006 australia, no golden neck, same logo but pictured differently, label says CROWN and lager in much smaller letters underneath.

Bottle, thanks Jimbo. Corn and sweet hay nose, a hint of hops. Golden, low head. Flat dry, mash and metal, carboard finish. Watery, mealy aftertaste. Really not very good is it?
