We make sure the gentle bitterness of this beer is rounded out with a classic malt flavour in true porter style. But to make things uniquely Feral (as we like to do), we add a subtle hickory flavor from German malts smoked over Beechwood, which gives this porter a truly special and unexpected character.

It's flamin' sensational.

Note: Formerly 4.7%. Previous description: Feral smoked porter has a very gentle bitterness and combines the classic coffee and chocolate character of the Porter style with a subtle smoked hickory flavour derived from the use of peated distiller’s malt.

There’s an off-putting aroma of three-day old sliced ham overlaying some roasted coffee and toast aromas. The taste is more pleasant though that off ham is still present, and the palate is a little thin.

(Bottle) Clear dark brown with no head - looks like flat coke. Pleasant and unusual aroma - a nice interesting and rich smokiness - definitely wood, but reminds me of bacon! Maybe a hint of coffee. Light body and light carbonation. Taste is pleasant and interesting - the smokiness is the most apparent component, and it has a richness to it, it is just what is needed to add interest to what is otherwise quite a basic beer. There’s some pleasant dark roast malt sweetness undertones, and a little porter sharpness. It’s a pleasant take on a smoked porter - not challenging like some smoked beers and some porters can be - but there is room for improvement.

Bottle at SQUE Rotisserie & Alehouse, Singapore
Dark brown clor, almost black, with small head. There is some smoke and firewood aroma. The flavor confirms and underlines that the smoke profile of this beer is more a Schwarzwäld Schinken than the one from peat; the body is lean, almost weak; there is some roasted malt flavor.
Pleasant but not exciting.

Trocken rauchiger, fast verbrannter Antrunk. Disharmonisch, wenig würzig, sehr hohe Karbonisierung. Zum Ende süßer, weiterhin verbrannt. Naja... 11/8/8/8/11/8

Bottle. Near black with a slight, off-white head. Tarry porter, with a mars bar mix of caramel and milk chocolate, solid roastiness and a touch of smoke in the finish. Good.

From a 330ml bottle on 30/1/2013 (ABV 4.9%, not 4.7%). Pours a very dark amber with a big head. Has a strong smell of smoky bacon. Flavour wise, there’s lots of chocolate malt, molasses, and smoked meats. The bitterness is medium and the carbonation relatively lively. All up, a very pleasant smoked beer. Quite surprised it isn’t rated more highly.
