This garnet brew is a fun mix-up of our Mexican Lager, with a lacy off-white foam. The flavor of this beer is dry and slightly bitter, with a crisp clean finish, balanced with a hint of corn sweetness. We get notes of crispy, well-cooked country loaf crust, wood fired flatbread and cornflour. Light aromas and clean lagering with a hint of dark malt and roast make this brew an all around favorite with the Vasen crew!

Single from The Brew Shop in Arlington. Canned 10/08/24. Pint glass at home. Dark brown, clear, cola pour. Fluffy but thin, dull-white colored head. Starchy, sharp, dark berry, mellow pith. Breakfast cereal, sharp roast & ash, oatmeal-like starchiness, faint vanilla, lingering bitter citrus pith, nutty endtrails. Thin, fizzy, acidic. Tis okay.

Deep dark brown coloured body with a pretty thinnish glow towards the bottom and a nice, two to three centimetre tall off-white head that caps the beer and fades pretty slowly. Aroma of light coffee and earthy malts with a good deal of grain and nuts here as well, showing some light yeasty notes on the finish and a dash of alcohol as well. Light to Medium-bodied; Strong earthy and nutty flavours dominate with a big grainy malt quality right behind, a light bit of sweetness and a crisp lager yeast flavour towards the end that brings out a lot of dry finishes. Aftertaste shows some more of the nutty and earthy flavours with a lot of grainy notes and surprisingly some pungent nuts that seem to roam throughout here, with a light bitterness from the hops picked up on the end as well. Overall, a pretty nice, relatively well-balanced, but still dry and grainy beer that shows just about what you'd expect for the style and clearly brings out more nuts and earth than their typical 'Mexican Lager'. Nice to sample and worth trying to find if you are a fan of the darker Mexicans in the first place. I sampled this sixteen ounce, pint-sized can, purchased from MOM's Organic Market in Alexandria (Potomac Yard), Virginia on 26-January-2023 for US$4,99, canned on 31-October-2022 and sampled in my hotel room here in Dewey Beach, Delaware on 29-January-2023.
