Appearance - 8 | Aroma - 7 | Flavor - 8 | Texture - 6 | Overall - 7
Deep dark brown coloured body with a thinnish, two centimetre tall off-white head that is more tan, but still fairly light considering the tint of the body. Aroma of deep roasted malt, light coffee, a touch of chocolate and a dose of anise and licorice, but mostly the bitter, burnt malt here. Medium-bodied; Large roasted/burnt malt flavours dominate up front with some lactose and unfinished milk sugars with cream and vanilla right behind with a dose of caster sugar and anise at the end, but focused on the malt. Aftertaste shows a lot of roast with a good balance of sugars, cream and earthy/nutty flavours that finishes quite potent, but nice. Overall, a nice stout that shows the roasty and burnt malt flavours perfectly, but some of the other aspects, a touch too small - vanilla, sugars, hops and balance, but at least there isn't much alcohol around either. Nice to sample and the best beer I had from the brewery/restaurant, but leaves quite a bit to be desired. I sampled this twelve ounce sample on draught for US$5,00 at the restaurant/brewpub on 10-March-2018 in BridgePort, Connecticut.
