330ml Rip top bottle (as 'Kuromame Ale') at my daughters on 14th February 2022. Poured into an old 'Corsendonk stemmed tulip glass. Mini-haze to the bronze coloured body, off-white foam on top. Coffee esters for me in the nose, malt forward throughout, some leather and mild peat like notes as it warmed in the glass. I found this both pleasant and interesting, one of the better beers I've had from Japan so far (that's not many actually).

12oz bottle pours a clear, caramel brown with some white head. Nose is weird, starchy, bean curd, some earth, spice, malt. Flavor is weird, cream soda, malt, data. Weird, spritzy finish. Odd.

Bottle as the alias (Kyoto Bakushu Kuromame Ale) from the Davis Food Co-op. Pours clear bright copper with a nice white head. Aroma is lightly smoky malt. Near med body. Flavor is a bit spicy/smoky with a malt flavor that seems rather German. Pretty dry. Moderately spicy/bitter. Pleasingly different. Refreshing.
