Wild Ale Blend w/ Gamay & Purple Plum
WE'RE 13 YEARS OLD!
Every year we release a Motley Cru barrel blend to celebrate another lap around the sun and an added year of wisdom. "Motley Cru" here has a double meaning - we ourselves are an eclectic group, but "cru" is also a traditional beer term for blend (we love word play).
The common thread across all of the Motleys we've released since the beginning of Bellwoods, is threefold:
1. The release must be a blend,
2. The blend must utilize oak aged beer, and
3. The oak aged beer must be older than a year.
Our 2025 edition features a blend of spontaneous wild ales conditioned on Gamay grapes and purple plums. It smells like dark cherries and earthy moss, tastes like tart stone fruit, goose berry and cassis, and drinks like a spritzy, dry natural wine with oaky tannic vibes.
It's tart, dry, fruity yet sour, and a once-a-year opportunity to get sappy.

Bottle pour at Farmhouse Fest 2025, pours a clear bright rosé red with a small white head. Aroma has plenty of red grape skins, some musty berries, and plenty of wild bugs. Flavour is full of musty grape skins, red berries, wild yeast, and plenty of bugginess. Musty, vinous and dry. Excellent.

Slightly hazy red pour, with a small pinkish head. Aroma is bretty, slightly funky grapes, with some tart plum. Hints of cherries, light stone fruit. Thin mouth feel, light carb, no bitterness. Clean, crisp funky finish.

A burgundy red ale with a thin lacing white head. In aroma, nice complex mix of ground cherry, light lactic notes, light Brett, very nice. In mouth, a nice tart mix of ground cherry, light lactic notes, light briney characters, light Brett, very nice. On tap at Lupulus.
