Bottle. Black with a cm of tan head. Aroma of black strap, mocha, pears, some earthy notes. Fullish body, lowish carbonation. I like the weight and how it’s mouthfilling but not shouty. Not as sweet nor molasses-heavy as suggested by the aroma. Heavier roast and some grass as well as light earthiness. Doesn’t dry out much but I really liked the way the bitterness holds things in check but remains unobtrusive. Pretty good, perhaps doesn’t offer quite enough for 10%.

Tap at the Boilermaker House, Melbourne. Poured almost black with a thin off white head. The aroma is roasty malt, molasses, alcohol, chocolate, coffee, floral notes. The flavour is moderate sweet with a smooth rich oily liqourice alcohol bitter palate. Full to medium bodied with flat carbonation. A good impy stout but far from being great.
