[Naming]
We went West Coast/East Coast themed for this two beer mini-series, but rather than focusing on the rougher side of East-West rivalry, we felt that the more creative side of breakdancing was a better fit, bringing in a bit of a parallel between the creativity of the art and craft beer making.
[Brewer's Voice]
The second in our series of Cold IPA’s I looked back to my time brewing on the east coast for inspiration of this beer. The east coast style is soft, very low bitterness, and more fruit forward hops. These flavors accompany lager yeast beautifully, as similar characteristics are found in many good lagers. So, we took this formula and turned up the hop intensity with a nice clean lager fermentation. The base beer is made up of a blend of golden promise and Maris otter, both high quality and soft flavorful base malts. With that base we softened it up even further and added a bit of haze and body with a large helping of equal parts oats and wheat. In true East coast fashion, we went for soft but impactful hops for this beer. Mosaic, Riwaka, and Kohatu add a complex layer of berries, stone fruit, melon and tropical flavors. Then on top of that we added a bit of Citra to brighten everything up with some tropical citrus flavors. The overall effect is a soft, hugely drinkable tropical clean beer that's low on bitterness, perfect for any lover of modern hoppy beers.

I’ll start with:
KBC Breaking East Coast Cold IPA 6.5%
Straw gold with thick white foam, a juicy aroma and a medium body. It’s dry but surprisingly doesn’t have a crisp finish. Woodsy prickly pair juicy hop bouquet, the taste is similar but adds a touch more fruit flavors.
I do kind of feel the dryness feels like it comes from an enzyme or something. Tastes pretty good but for me overall it’s just ok.

Can. Golden color, almost clear, with a thick head. Big, juicy nose, with pine, pineapple, grapefruit, white grapes. Light malt flavor, big hops, lots of citrus, funky dank, huge tropical fruits. A bit of a bitter, funky finish.
