Bottle. Blackish beer with a brown colored head. Roasty and coffee aroma with light oats. Caramel flavor with roast and coffee. Medium bodied. Roast and coffee lingers with caramel and light hops.

Dark brown, looks thick. Nice thick head. Rich roasty aroma fulling just short of imperial status with oaty, creamy nuances. Creamy rich, full of oats, very smooth and full-bodied. Chocolatey - dark chocolate bitterness and light roast accents. Maybe some burnt fruit at the back. Excellent spring stout.

Nice black color with brown inflections and a brown head. Roast on the nose and an oily medium mouthfeel. Chocolate and roast with oily palate and a little bite on the finish. Tasted at a Ninkasi dinner at Monk’s Kettle for their release in SF. Perhaps I should retry this after not being blown away by 3 other Ninkasi beers, this didn’t live up to the others. [retasted in May 2012 and bumped up a couple of pkints].

Bottle, home. The mouthfeel works against this otherwise great beer. It’s just a tad too thin to support the roasty, coffee bean fruitiness of the malt. I think more chocolate flavor would come out if the beer had a creamier feel. There’s cocoa, roast, raisin-sweet malt and a touch of hops, though less than expected. The beer is somewhat acidic and of moderate sweetness. It’s an excellent value, better than many similar stouts. Thanks for starting distribution here, Ninkasi.

Bomber into English pint glass. Nice, nice aroma of fresh roasted coffee. Awesome looking brew. Pours nearly opaque black with a thick head, which dissipates shortly, leaving a thin head and beautiful lacework. Flavor and palate don’t live up to the hype given in the nose and appearance. Flavor is pretty standard for this style. It’s not blowing me away like I was expecting. It’s a little on the thin side. Alcohol is very noticeable. Starts sweet, finishes with a bitterness that lingers for a long time on the back of the tongue. Overall, it’s a nice stout, but it just doesn’t have that "wow factor" that many beers in this category seem to have.

Sampled at the Hopsnobbery Collective Stout tasting on 01/23/10. This brew is black with a medium tan head that diminishes steadily. Small patches of lacing on the glass. Roasted malt and coffee in the nose. Medium to full smooth body with a nice roasty character and flavors of charred malt, coffee and bittersweet chocolate. Mild hops in the background as well. The finish is sweet cocoa. Pretty good overall.

Bottle Poirs out a dark but clear brown. Very smal light tan head. Light roasted aroma and a roasted charcoal flavor that lacked some of the rich smooth flavors and palate that I was hoping for.
