Smoked Double Stout.. that’s right, that age old BJCP category that we literally made up.. just now. This beer marks a return, albeit a slow and concentrated one, to more experimental brewing and one-offs that we and hopefully you have missed from us.
In that spirit, we took this opportunity to incorporate a measured but robust amount of beechwood smoked malt into the grist of a fairly sticky full-bodied not quite imperial stout for succinct sweetness without any cloying clutter. We’ve used cherry wood smoked malt in our dark beers, but this is different.
We notice impressions of fresh cold brew concentrate, smoked rye toast, campfire smoke, and 85% cacao dark chocolate, all wrapped in a softer creamy carbonated finish.
