In the true spirit of keeping things local, Hobsons have created a Plum Porter with a twist by using Shropshire Prune Damsons. The Shropshire Prune has been described as the essence of ’plum’ and is possibly the oldest known variety of damson in the UK. This porter delivers on provenance and intense flavour. a delicate balance of rich damson and roast malt sweetness.

Thin beige head left a spotty cover on a reddish brown coloured body. Sour fruit, malt & woody aroma. Medium bodied, soft with a lightly carbonated back. Woody, sour fruits, red wine, piggy & red berry tastes with a lightly hopped finish. Easy going.

Panda online from the Low Cost Beer. Pours deep brown with a ruby tinge, decent beige foam. Aroma: caramel, mild chocolate, damson. Taste: approaching moderate sweet & bitter, lightly dry on the palate. Light to medium body with foamy carbonation.

Growler fill from the Low Cost Beer online shop. Pours just-clear red-brown with a thin beige head. Aromas of light chocolate and plum. Taste adds something jammy behind the chocolate. Bit thin on the finish.

Bottle shared at Latvian Independence Day celebration at Ebenezers, Crewe – thanks @BlackHaddock. [ Yes I know Shropshire isn’t in Latvia !] Pours a dark reddish-brown with mnimal off-white head. Aroma is mainly roasted malts with just a trace of plums. Much the same in the mouth, though the plums are a bit more evident here. There’s also a medicinal hint of balsam. This is reasonable but could have done with a bit more oomph and plums !

Pours a nice-looking dark brown with a frothy tan head and plenty of plums on the nose. It's very big on the plums throughout, but not so much the Porter side of things with the malt on the low-key side, not highly roasted, and it's a little thin. There's some soft bitterness coming in towards the finish.

Bottle, danke Günther! Chestnut brown, low offwhite cream. Fruity nose, plum skin bitterness, roast, a hint bubblegum. Medium body, soft mouthfeel. Fruity base with a hint tartness, plums evident, light dry roast, fun enough.
